Microphone not working in headless mode?

Post by GrandAdmiralThrawn »

Hello!

I am currently trying to run myself a small VM for a certain audio application that doesn't work on my host OS (Yeah, it's Skype). The host is Server 2003 x64 or XP x64, the guest is regular XP 32-Bit or Win7 x64. Audio passthrough works nicely in any case as long as I launch the VM from the VirtualBox GUI. To have my VM run nicely in the background, I configured them to run in headless mode with RDP access to launch Skype. RDP's own audio passthrough is disabled! And this is where the trouble starts.

I do still get nice audio playback from any VM on my host OS, but it seems the hosts Microphone is no longer being passed to any VM when it's running in headless mode. So I can't use the Mic.

Is there anything I can do to have full audio passthrough to the host work for headless VMs running on the same machine?

I'm running VBox 4.2.26 with Extension Pack, VBox Guest Additions are installed of course.

Thanks a lot!
