Hello ... I'm trying to install Windows XP from an .iso on my MacPro laptop ... no DVD drive : / and found a WinXP download on the Microsoft site ... I'm a license owner ... but I can't get the chance to enter my license : |

Here's what I've tried:

1. Created new virtual machine
2. Went to settings > storage > empty > CD/DVD icon and chose the file "xpsp3_5512.080413-2113_usa_x86fre_spcd.iso" which I downloaded from Microsoft's Download Center ... http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=25129.
3. Started the VM and got the sad message: Fatal: No bootable medium found! System halted. : (

Tried many times but can't get it to work.

Any suggestions?

P.S. After reading this article ... Windows in BootCamp or Virtual Machine? ... I'm wondering if Mavericks works with VisualBox : /

What you downloaded was an update .iso to upgrade WIndows XP SP1 or Sp2 to SP3. It's not an installer. It doesn't have XP on it.

Although you can still purchase XP

You also need to understand that there is no updates provided for XP and Microsoft no longer supports it.

Good points Perry G ... I only use XP for one program ... TaxAct ... and I'm trying to get a Windows O/S on my Mac Pro asap for the Sept. filing. I own XP so I'm just trying to get it set up so I can do my taxes. But I'm not averse to upgrading. In that regard a couple of questions:

1. Should I be upgrading to Win 7 or Win 8? I've heard Win 7 in 'XP-solid' while Win 8 is a bit of a mess? Any opinions about that? AND ... MOST IMPORTANT ...

2. Is there an .iso version that will easily launch in VirtualBox?

Just curious, if you own XP why not just use the install CD in VirtualBox? If you don't have a CD/DVD drive, you can buy one for less than the cost of Windows XP, 7 or 8.1. I believe btw Microsoft has 30day or 90day trial .isos on their website. You can also try PlayOnMac which could possibly run TaxAct without Windows.
