1.6 SATA "Setup did not find any hard disk drives insta

Post by Slavius »

VirtualBox 1.6
Ubuntu 8.04 Desktop
Enable SATA controller
Sata Port 0

This was a working guest on 1.5.6. I've upgraded to 1.6 and decided to try the SATA. So I've enabled sata controller, changed the only HDD to Sata Port 0, inserted Windows XP SP2 CD and started the VM. (I'm completely sure it wouldn't boot without repair)
I got this in the setup:
"Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer"

Any advices? Is there a driver I can use with F6?
When I booted linux LiveCD I saw this as an "SATA controller: Intel Corporation 82801HBM/HEM (ICH8M/ICH8M-E) SATA AHCI Controller (rev 02)"

Windows XP doesn't support SATA, just use normal IDE.

Hi, I know how to integrate the drivers with nlite, but I don't know what's the right SATA/RAID driver to integrate... Anyone know it? I tried to integrate all intel ones but it still doens't recognize the HDD

thx

And one more problem...

I installes XP in IDE mode finally, but I need the SATA controller for some RAID practices. And there is a problem. When I activate the SATA controller, in management console appears an unknown PCI device (the SATA controller, I presume)

So I can add SATA disks in VM, but Windows doesn't recognizes the until I install the SATA controller driver...

So... what's that driver, guys?

Thanks

The device is listed a few posts back. If you read the other topic about the intel devices (SATA and LAN) you will find the right driver. Look for Intel Matrix Storage Manager on the Intel site.

I didn't pay much attention to the name of the author of that topic. You might have editted your post to state that you found it.

I have it running on the sata port directly, works like a charm. Too bad that the network caused another BSOD on mxdrv.sys while using Shared Folders. Damn that instability.

I made a boot cd of XP Pro with SP3 and Intel drivers along with IE7 and WMP 11. I got the VM to boot, format, and copy the windows install over but on the first reboot where it starts up and configures the OS i get a blue screen 1/4 of the way through. Do you guys have any idea what's going on? thanks.
