"No bootable medium found" error - installing XP on OSX 10.8

Hello everyone!

I keep getting the following error when I try to install Windows XP SP1 on Mac OS X 10.8.5 (MacBook Pro with built-in optical drive):

FATAL: No bootable medium found! System halted.

I am trying to install from a CD. It is not an original install CD, but I used this one in the past with VM on my old Macbook and had no issues installing it. I suspect there's just some setting that I'm missing, but I can't figure out what it is. I was originally asked to specify the drive to boot from whenever I started the XP machine, but after remounting the drive, I don't get this option anymore, it just goes straight to attempting to boot.

Please keep in mind that I'm tech-competent, but not particularly tech-savvy with this type of thing, so brief explanations of any technical terms or jargon you use are appreciated (I'm the "push buttons until it works" type of person, so I don't always recognize the proper terms for things even if I do actually know what you're talking about).

Normally that means you didn't attach the install CD to the guest. if you have, that could mean the CD is damaged, or dirty. Or it could mean your CD drive is dirty.

You could try burning the CD to an .iso or .dmg file and see if that will work.
