Guest OS not visible to other devices on the Host's LAN

Post by z3255859 »

Hello Folks

I have installed Kali Linux in Virtualbox running on a macbook pro (osx mavericks). Now the whole idea behind this was to have a kali linux OS be visible to other devices in my LAN (my macbook pro's LAN)

I chose the bridged network in network settings (en1: Wi-Fi(AirPort)). I have also enabled promiscous mode to be 'Allow All' option

Now my host macbook pro has a LAN IP of

Code: Select all

192.168.0.13
and the guest (Kali Linux) has the IP

Code: Select all

192.168.0.20
.

Now that tells me the the guest OS is in the LAN. However I am unable to ping some devices on the LAN but am able to ping others ?!?!?!

Also in the last 15 minutes my LAN ip for the guest OS has also changed from 192.168.0.20 to 192.168.0.22. Why is this happening ?

Also my internet connection inside the guest OS is off and on. Why ?

Bridged networking is outside the wireless specification. It may or may not work. Some combinations of Routers/Access Points, WLAN cards and drivers work, some don't. See for example: Bridging & Wifi - Supported hardware. See if you can make it work with wired bridged.
