Ubuntu 12.04.4 installation fails due to ACPI issue

Hello, I have a pretty special question about a problem I experienced lately.
When I try to install newer Versions of Ubuntu, like 12.04, the installation gets stuck and even the live cd is not able to boot. The kernel tells
Then the boot process stops and CPU load is high. Sending Ctrl+Alt+Del still works and triggers a restart of the virtual machine. I assume it could be a problem caused by a hardware conflict of the host system, which involves the Microsoft ACPI-Compliant Embedded Controller. Turning off IO-APIC in the settings of the virtual machine solves the problem. But IO-APIC is needed in the guest, to be able to use multiple cores.
Do you have any suggestions how this problem could be solved?
I am using the latest VirtualBox version 4.3.14 and Windows 7 Pro x64.
