Windows 8 hangs at logon screen after Host+D or sleep
Windows 8 hangs at logon screen after Host+D or sleep
From time to time when my host is put to sleep (but not always) after waking up the guest has blank screen. Pressing Host+Del (Ctrl+Alt+Delete) does not bring logon screen. Sometimes the screen with background picture and the clock blinks and the screen is still black. Only powering off of the guest is possible at this stage. The same behavior I observe when I press "Host+D" in the guest. Also the same happens when I open Virtual Disk Manager.
I have to admit that it is very annoying... Please help in resolving this issue.
Configuration details: Guest: Windows 8, Host: Windows 8, Vbox: 4.3.12, logs and .vbox attached.
Thank you in advance for help!!!

Pause the guest before you put the host to sleep.

This works. But Shutting down and restarting guest takes ages. This is why I wrote that it is annoying...

Here's a third suggestion: Save the VM state. It usually takes several seconds for the saving/restoring. See if that works better.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

I'm having the same issue.
Restarting/Shutting Down/Saving State are not solutions. There is probably an underlying problem with the video rendering that causes this glitch. danowski, can you create a ticket for this with your log file? (https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Bugtracker)
Mac Host, Win 8.1 Guest.

Could you define "takes ages"? My Windows 8.1 guest takes about 15 seconds to boot and 5 seconds to shutdown.danowski wrote:This works. But Shutting down and restarting guest takes ages. This is why I wrote that it is annoying...

Re: Windows 8 hangs at logon screen after Host+D or sleep
I should have checked.
Maybe it was corrected in 4.3.14 but I have no problem putting my Mac to sleep with W8.1 Open. Either by putting the guest in pause first or just leaving it open which seems to put the guest in pause anyway.

Ticket 13274 created: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/13274
My Windows 8.0 guest takes at least a minute to boot (and a few minutes with startup sw to be loaded). May be this is due to BitLocker enabled?
