Printers from Guest change names every time

Hello

I need some help in setting up a few printers on the Guest OS.
I´m using VirtualBox 4.3.12, Host is Mac OS X 10.9.4 and Guest is Windows XP 64 bit Pro with SP2

In the Guest OS, we a have a software that is redirected to printers installed also in the Guest OS. The printers works perfect but due some software constraints, the printer name must not exceed 8 characters so once installed I change the printer´s name.

The problem is that when I turn off the virtual host and start it up again, the printers with the changed name goes to offline and the Guest OS installs the printers as new again with the default name.

I tried to filter the USB ports on the USB settings but it seems to work fine for a while and then randomly (at least I could´t figure out a pattern) they stop working again.

Could you please help?

This doesn't sound like a VirtualBox problem. It sounds more like a messed up driver installation - which you would fix by uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers.

First of all, thanks for the reply.

I already checked that. I reinstalled the drivers using original CD and the behavior persists.
I did the same installation using the same disks on a PC (not a virtual box) and if a change the name of the printer, stays that way.

I´ll make a few more tests I´ve been thinking and post the results.

Naming of network devices is not something that matters at the hardware level, which is where VirtualBox operates at. So, unless there is something missing from your story I don't see, as I said, how this can be a VirtualBox issue.

Hmm... I though so too. But I´m still not able to get it to work and when I take them out of the Virtual Box they work as I expect it.

I don´t know if this is relevant but I´m using a Mac Mini i5 with 4 GB RAM. Printers are both USB STAR BSC10 and other STAR SP742
They work just fine but the Guest OS, randomly acts as if the printers were never installed and install them again using existing drivers with default name and leaves the previously configured ones with an offline status.
