No Bootable Medium Found
No Bootable Medium Found
Yes I know this subject has been covered many times. I'm using Virtual Box version 4.2.0 r80737 on a Linux Mint 14 system. I have an iso file downloaded and burned to a DVD. I've loaded that iso to a hd. I can boot that DVD in its native mode. When I configure VB to boot from either the DVD or the file on hd it says "fatal: no bootable medium found! System halted". I've configured VB with virtual disk, hard disk, DVD, Linux ubuntu and "other linux" sata hd, ide cd/dvd with out resolution. Can you assist? Thank you

Re: No Bootable Medium Found
Does that mean that if you boot your real hardware (host) from the DVD it boots? I highly doubt it, but, are you by any chance running an EFI based system? (my bet is on "no")elchucko wrote:I can boot that DVD in its native mode.
Where did you get the iso? Is it an Ubuntu or another Linux distribution? If so, did you verify the checksum of your download?

Yes if I load my iso file DVD via my hardware DVD from power up, the system will boot without VB. It's a Mint 10 disto. EFI based sysem? I don't know what that is. It does boot from the dvd drive so can I assume the iso files are OK?
Re: No Bootable Medium Found
Do I have to convert the iso file to vdi? If so what application can I use? Thank you

Re: No Bootable Medium Found
Once you create a new guest, the .iso file should be attached to the IDE Controller in the Storage section of VirtualBox by clicking on the CD icon. Once you do that you can start the guest and install the OS.
I saw you were trying to install the Commodore OS in your previous posts. If you are still trying, I don't think you will have much luck.

Re: No Bootable Medium Found
If you still want to install the Commodore Vision OS, VirtualBoxImages has a prebuilt version. Be aware that it is based on Linux Mint 10, it's very much out of date, and you won't be able to update anything including any of the Commodore packages because they are gone. Here is the link if you still choose to...

Re: No Bootable Medium Found
Well I removed all controllers then added an ide controller. I pointed it to the dvd drive and loaded successfully. But as before, it runs vey slow. I can boot where the cosv runs off the dvd directly instead of being fully installed and it runs OK. I've tried off and on over the last couple of years to load various releases and do a full install to the hd. The install goes great until I do the last step (enter key) and it hangs. I then lose MBR and my mint 14 and W7 capability. I use W7 to fix the MBR and I can boot from mint or w7 ok. The other thing that happens every time an attempt is made to install the os to a hard disk, it does not release the disk it used on the previous install attempt but continues to use more available disk and this process happens again and again using more disk. Someone with talent far beyond me could probably fix the problem. This type of problem happens to HP pcs (an AMD or video adpt issue)? Maybe. Reason I'm trying to do this I just want to "play around" with the os. Oh well. Thanks for all your help. How do I close this thread? Thank you

Re: No Bootable Medium Found
You do know you aren't supposed to use VirtualBox to try and install a guest directly to your physical hard drive???

Re: No Bootable Medium Found
I did not know. My attempt to install on VB was other posts I've seen on old commodore forums where some had done so.
