[SOLVED] Installing Win-8.1 guest fails.

Post by virubix »

Hi,

Im trying to install Windows 8.1 (product/DVD codename: "WIN 8.1 X64 ENGLISH 1PK DSP OEI DVD"), but it fails with the following message:

Code: Select all

Your PC needs to restart
Please hold down the power button
Error Code: 0x000000C4
Parameters:
0x0000000000000091
0x000000000000000F
0xFFFFF8023BDBFA80
0x
Is there a way out of this, or am I stuck, until this OS will be officially supported by the VirtualBox?

1) 64-bit guests or any Windows 8* product need hardware-virtualzation enabled in the hosts bios.
2) when creating the 64-bit guest you must select 64-bit in General -> Basic -> version.
3) If running Windows as host you must make sure hyper-v or xp mode is not enabled on the host. MS does not play well and wants it all.

Change the VM Settings, General, Basic, Version. It should say "Windows 8.1 (64-bit)".
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

Perryg and socratis, thank you for your replies, which both, despite my initial expectations, indeed, were rather helpful :P
