Virtualbox 4.3.12
Guest: Win 7
Host: OS X 10.7.5, Mac Book Pro 15" mid-2010.
Host video card (Intel chip locked out): NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M 512 MB

"Hardware acceleration is either disabled or not supported by your video ...'"

On the tab Settings > System > Accrleration both selections are checked. So is 3d acceleration.

Perhaps that video hardware is not up to the task. How can I figure out if the video card can't do it, or if there is a problem with Virtualbox settings? A web search of that hardware didn't turn up anything that I understood/answered the question.

I'm not sure why you are getting that error. Your MacBook Pro has a 2.66GHz Intel Core i7 which does support VT-X. You should be able to run 64bit guests. Perhaps locking out the Intel graphics is causing some confusion but as noteirak suggested, make sure you post the info including the compressed vbox.log.

You did install the guest additions?

Where did you get this error from? VirtualBox or another application in Windows 7?

Install the guest additions. See chapter 4 of the user manual.
