Virutalbox with 2 adapters causing network problems

We are trying to ping across the network with one computer to another. The virtualbox machines can reach the internet, but they cannot ping or recieve pings from anyone else in the network. It is using 2 adapters, which we will configure later with openVPN. however, now we are just trying to establish connectivity. Im almost sure its a firewall issue thats blocking it, but the firewall is turned off on both the host machine, the virtualbox image, and the pinging machine. There is a hardware firewall between the two however, so I am wondering if that is causing the snag. We can go in and change the hardware firewall, I just want to make sure its the problem first

Reply to the previous cry for help before asking the same question (more or less). I have a feeling that the answer (or the source of troubleshooting) might be the same. And no, VBox with 2 adapters is NOT causing network problems.
