Apple MBP Host - Windows 8.1 guest crash

Post by StuManCA »

I've successfully installed Windows 8.1 64-bit Enterprise as a guest on my Apple MacBook Pro Mavericks OS with VirtualBox 4.3.12. It works great on my internal flash hard drive! --boots up in seconds! The problem I have is when I leave the Win 8.1 VM running when I lock the screen, close up the laptop and put it in sleep mode, carry it off to a meeting, and open the screen to come back out of sleep mode. It's at that point my Win 8.1 VM effectively crashes which kills any running programs in the VM. This isn't good for me. I end up having to shutdown the VM before taking the laptop away from my desk, restart the VM and restart all the programs I had running prior to shutting it down. (Hibernate or sleep mode inside the Windows 8.1 OS doesn't seem to be an option, otherwise I'd do that. And, I can't seem to force hibernate or sleep modes to be available.)

Has anyone with either an Apple MacBook Pro or MacBook Air running a Windows guest had similar problems coming out of sleep mode? Are you just living with the issue? Have you found a work around? If you're not having issues with this perhaps you could share how you have the VM Guest setting made?

Thanks in advance!

OK, so I found an answer to this. Pause the VM, put the MBP in sleep mode, come back, take the VM out of Pause, and I'm good to go.

Cheers!

The old story. If you want something done a particular way, do it yourself.
