only version 4.1 working on my mac OSx 10.9.4

Post by risoto2000 »

I'm trying to use the newer version of VirtualBox, but only 4.1 is working on my MAC, I have OSX 10.9.4 with the latest updates. When I try to install 4.2 or 4.3 I receive an error message saying that the installation went wrong and stop the installation.

I try removing the previous version manually, with the uninstaller, and nothing works.

Any idea?

see the attached image

in english say: "error during installation" the installation has detected an error and can not complete the instalation. Get in touch with the software company to request for help.

The uninstaller tool show these (may be some clues):

unloading org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxUSB
(kernel) Can't unload kext org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxUSB; classes have instances:
(kernel) Kext org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxUSB class org_virtualbox_VBoxUSB has 1 instance.
Failed to unload org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxUSB - (libkern/kext) kext is in use or retained (cannot unload).
An error occurred durning 'sudo /sbin/kextunload -m org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxUSB', there should be a message above. (rc=3)
unloading org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxDrv
(kernel) Can't remove kext org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxDrv; services failed to terminate - 0xdc008018.
Failed to unload org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxDrv - (libkern/kext) kext is in use or retained (cannot unload).
An error occurred durning 'sudo /sbin/kextunload -m org.virtualbox.kext.VBoxDrv', there should be a message above. (rc=3)
Failed to unload one or more KEXTs, please reboot the machine to complete the uninstall.

Did you reboot the machine and run the uninstaller again? Did it fail again?

Take a look at your activity monitor and see if there is any VirtualBox related process and kill them before you run the uninstaller. Also, a clue that you might have a ghost VBox related process would be when you run the uninstaller, it should give you a warning along these lines:

Code: Select all

Warning! Found the following active VirtualBox processes:
 5729 502 VirtualBox
 5734 502 VBoxXPCOMIPCD
 5736 502 VBoxSVC
 5750 502 VBoxNetDHCP
 6347 502 VirtualBoxVM

We recommend that you quit all VirtualBox processes before
uninstalling the product.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.
Do NOT reply with the "QUOTE" button, please use the "POST REPLY", at the bottom of the form.
If you obfuscate any information requested, I will obfuscate my response. These are virtual UUIDs, not real ones.

ok, sorry for the post, the answer was in front of me... the uninstaller was asking to reboot my mac, I reboot it and run the uninstaller again, now without errors, and I was able to install the latest version

!!! please reboot the machine to complete the uninstall. !!!

Thank you, I re-read again the error and discover the problem, thank you for your answer also :)
