On your Ubuntu guest, how did you install the guest additions? Did you do it from the device tab or from the package manager.

Frank mentioned issues with the following: "cp: cannot create regular file './Screenshot from 2014-07-07 20:37:06.png': Protocol error". NTFS filenames cannot have colons in them. That is the cause of errors related to this command.
