What you should understand is, Windows and Mac keyboards are mapped differently which was the OP's point of this thread. Regardless of the country of origin. U.S. Apple keyboards are mapped differently than Windows U.S. keyboards. They have been for more than a decade.

The confusion is really getting worse here lol

I have a non USA Mac keyboard (built in into my MacBook Pro), while my virtual machine sees it as a mainstream Belgian keyboard.
It should recognize it as a Mac keyboard, so I can use special characters (@, \, |) the way I'm used to on my MacBook

Should I use VMWare or other software instead? Because I really can't work this way

You can certainly download a free trial of VMWare Fusion or Parallels Desktop but I'm not sure they are any different.
