Seamless mounting of a Linux host's folder

I am looking for the most transparent way to access a folder on host from within Linux guest.
Host system: Ubuntu 14.04
Guest system: Lubuntu 14.04
There's a folder /home/hostuser/shareable on the host. I'd like to access the contents of this folder from within the guest system, via guest's /home/guestuser/external folder. It should be as transparent as possible, without need to manually run any scripts, etc. And it should work both when the guest system is started from boot or restored from previously saved state.
The guest system should be totally oblivious to the fact that this folder is not native to the guest. Ie, Apache should be able to run websites from it, etc. I guess this happens automatically when the mount is successful, just wanted to make sure my intention.
