How to configure bridged networking in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS?

Hi
I am have a Ubuntu 12.04 LTS 32-bit guest on a Windows 7 Prof 64-bit host. I am trying to configure bridged networking but can't succeed. I am using VBox 4.3.12.
Here is what I have done:
1) With VM running, select Devices > Network > Network Settings and set Adapter 1 to:
Bridged Adapter
Intel 82577LC Gigabit network connection
Promiscuous Mode: Deny
Cable connected: Enable
2) In Ubuntu, open network configuration dialog box by either clicking on networking icon on top right corner (next to battery icon)
3) Observe 'Wired connection 1'
4) Select Edit connections...
5) Select 'Wired connection 1'
6) Click Edit
7) In 'IPv4 Settings' tab. set method to 'Automatic (DHCP)'
In 'IPv6 Settings' tab. set method to 'Ignore'
9) Click Save...
10) Restart VM.
Then I see:
$ ifconfig
eth0 Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 08:00:27:15:56:20
inet6 addr: fe80::a00
fe15:5620/64 Scope:Link
UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
RX packets:263 errors:0 dropped:5 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:30 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
RX bytes:23093 (23.0 KB) TX bytes:6609 (6.6 KB)
lo Link encap:Local Loopback
inet addr:127.0.0.1 Mask:255.0.0.0
inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
UP LOOPBACK RUNNING MTU:65536 Metric:1
RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
collisions:0 txqueuelen:0
RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)
So I am not seeing an IPv4 address for eth0.
Any idea what I am doing wrong please?
BR
