Users Enabling 2D in Linux Guests

I've been noticing quite a few users enabling 2D in the display settings for Linux guests despite the warning that "invalid settings detected" is shown as soon as it is enabled. I don't know if it hurts anything to leave it enabled but I just thought I would mention it.

It used to be disabled on boot. You would need to see the log file to be sure.

I don't know why it's not disabled unless you are creating a Windows guest but that's just me.

It really matters not if they select it other than seeing the invalid setting. If you hover over the warning it tell you that it will be disabled.

I hope you know I'm not trying to be a pain. I'm just not used to software that allows users to choose invalid settings. What it says is...

Perhaps this thread could be moved to Suggestions? As in don't let users set invalid settings. This setting may very well be ignored or disabled on boot but there are others such as assigning too much memory or too many cores etc. For example, I have a 4 core i7 and in VirtualBox I can assign a guest 8 cores before VirtualBox displays the invalid settings message and I can assign 16 cores.
Or I suppose one can hope that users know what they are doing and/or read manuals.

Do you see the invalid icon at the bottom when you enable the 2D setting? Put the mouse over that and see if is says it is going to be disabled anyway.

I assume it must since you asked. But, I have been using VB for 5 years and it's never occurred to me to hover over it. Of course I also don't use invalid settings. Don't mind me, I'm just on a temporary protect users from themselves crusade.

The really neat thing is so are the DEVs. Windows and Linux hosts do say that it will be disabled anyway. I can't say for Mac users is why I asked if it did in fact say it was disabled anyway.

oh oops, I thought it was a rhetorical question. It does say it will be disabled. On the other hand, it says nothing about me setting a guest to use 8 cores. Once I set it to 9 cores, the warning arrives about possible degradation of performance and suggests I consider reducing the number of cores. It's very polite.

I know I have forgot to change it from time to time. I have seen that it does in fact uncheck the box so no harm done. Would be best to disable or hide that option when using linux. Plus one for this suggestion.

Actually I feel silly disagreeing with someone who agreed with my post but PerryG is correct. Since VirtualBox, in this specific case, takes care of the 2D issue already, there's no need to hide or disable the 2D setting.
