Fullscreen trouble on VB 4.3.12, OSx 10.9.2

Hi folks,

I'm running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS on VirtualBox 4.3.12 r93733 on an iMac running osx 10.9.2.

When I switch the virtualbox ubuntu window to full screen mode I end up with a small window surrounded by a sea of black space. Does anyone have any ideas on how to change the screen resolution on the guest? I don't have a second monitor or anything, it's all on my imac monitor.

you need to install the guest additions in the Ubuntu guest.

In my searching before posting I saw this as one of the many suggestions to fix this problem. Paraphrase from (link I can't attach yet):

Open the terminal in Ubuntu guest, then type

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install build-essential linux-headers-$(uname -r)
sudo apt-get install virtualbox-guest-x11

your welcome. you don't really want to install the guest additions from a distro's repos. you can but you will have a hard time getting help here because this forum only supports the official version of VirtualBox.

Or you can read the most authoritative post, the user manual Ch. 4.2.2. Guest Additions for Linux. As loukingjr said, you do NOT want to install the repository's GAs, but the ones that came with VirtualBox.
