Hi All,
have had VBox run XP guest fine on a MacBook host under Ubuntu, now trying same trick on a MacBookPro under OSX 10.6.8, but the guest WinXP Pro will not offer any other resolution than 800x600 (hardware on the MBP can go to 1280x800), and yes I did install guest additions. What can I do from here?
Thanks!
XP Pro guest, poor screen resolution

Re: XP Pro guest, poor screen resolution
Use the host+F toggle to go full screen in the guest. Does it fill the screen without black borders?

Eeewwwww... So the size of the VBox window is actually seen as some sort of "display hardware device size" by the guest OS? I mean, changing the VBox window size makes as though you litterally changed screens? Surprising.
Anyway. Thanks! All good now.

Re: XP Pro guest, poor screen resolution
Some OSes only provide the resolution that they see given. When starting the guest is would be 640x480 or 800x600 and that would be the highest that the guest would show.
The options will change when shutting the guest down but the easiest way to change the resolution is the mouse click and drag, or the full screen toggle.
