Video card tuning

Post by Clovis2 »

Hello,

I try to run a program on Window XP hosted by Mac. It doesn't run, telling me "No video mode available: your video card cannot handle 800x600x16bit resolution". Is it any way to to fix it?

My configuration:
VirtualBox 4.3.10 r93012;
Host Mac OS 10.7.5, 2.4GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 3Gb ram 667MHz;
Guest: Windows XP with Guest Additions installed, 512Mb ram, 27Mb video.

Thanks a lot.

you could try changing the display in XP to 800x600x16 but I doubt it will help and you would have to switch it every time you wanted to use the program before you try and run it.

What's the "program"? A game perhaps? Programs like these tend to push the physical hardware to their limit, often accessing the hardware directly, hence the strict requirements. Applications that have high requirements on the GPU (drawing, 3D, games, video) are expected to not work as good as on the real hardware, if they work at all.
Do NOT send me Personal Messages (PMs) for troubleshooting, they are simply deleted.

welcome. I suspected it wouldn't. anything old enough to be looking for a 800x600x16 video mode is most likely not going to run on modern hardware. unless you have a PC built around the same time as the program was written you won't have much luck.

It would be like trying to run a program on your Mac that was written for OS 7 or for a PPC Mac. You could check on the Crossover or PlayOnMac sites to see if the program is supported.

Thanks to loukingjr, my Paradoxion works perfectly using PlayOnMac :-) despite the fact it is not on runable apps list.
