Reinstallation fails on OSX 10.9.3

Hi there,
I've been experiencing the "Error: Kernel Driver not loaded" error described in this thread: viewtopic.php?f=8&t=52406
So I attempted to reinstall the latest version of VirtualBox (VirtualBox-4.3.12-93733-OSX.dmg) and the installation failed at the end of the process saying it "encountered an error".
So I uninstalled the existing version using a VirtualBox mac OSX uninstaller (possibly not the same as the version I had installed...), rebooted, ran a Disk Permission repair, and tried again, but I get the same error.
So I tried earlier versions of VirtualBox (VirtualBox-4.3.10-93012-OSX.dmg), same deal.
The account I am using is an administrator on the machine.
In /var/VirtualBox.log I found errors like this (full example at end of post):

I have recently run an inplace upgrade to 10.9.3 (Mavericks) but VirtualBox had been running OK - I did get a corruption in my VirtualBox.xml, but I replaced it with the VirtualBox.xml-prev version and everything seemed OK again.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I can try please?

Just to eliminate a couple of other "have you tried..."s
Moving the whole ~/Library/VirtualBox folder out of the way doesn't work (same error).
Installing as root from terminal doesn't work (same error).
Any ideas anyone please?

I don't think it's a great idea to install an app as root. But since you already did, I would first try to use the uninstall tool as root in case any part of VirtualBox did manage to be installed.

I have to say, I have installed various versions of VirtualBox on four different Macs over a period of five years and I've never had the installer fail. Be that as it may, I would try uninstalling it once more. Then do a search for anything VirtualBox related including system and invisible files. If you find anything, delete them other than your VMs of course. You might want to backup your VM folder first just to be on the safe side. Download the VirtualBox installer and make sure the checksums match.

Start your Mac in safe mode and try and install VB. If it still fails I haven't a clue.

Don't suppose anyone had a find command that would cover that do they? (As I am assuming that not everything installed is in folders nicely named "VirtualBox")

I think any virtualbox files are either named virtualbox or vbox.

Managed to fix it. I had a folder called ~/VirtualBox\ VMs/ which contained Logs, Snapshots & .vbox files. I moved that out of the way and the installation works (however I have no absolute positive/ repeatable test case so can't say that was it 100%). Hope that might help anyone else with the same issue.

actually that is where any VMs would be and they wouldn't be removed so any guests you had created would be there after you updated VirtualBox.
