hi
i downloaded virtual box and installed windows xp sp2. when i go to network options i have set it to the macs airport.
i then go to xp and click internet explorer and its just comes up saying this page cannot be displayed.
i have looked in the settings and can find no where to set it up so that it will work off my wireless router.
please help me to get this working as i don't really want to spend 50 quid on a windows 8 license.

VM Settings, Network, Adapter #1
- Enable Network Adapter:
Checked
- Attached to:
Bridged
- Name:
(select your wireless card)
Open the "Advanced" section:
- Cable Connected:
Checked
Your XP host should get an IP address from your router. If it doesn't, then you most probably have a problem with your router/wireless card combination, since Bridged over WiFi is not officially supported. Try either with a wired connection, or try NAT mode instead of Bridged.

The Win XP machine should get a connection through the Mac wifi connection, you don't need to connect it again.
Under Network, Adapter 1 i have these settings.
- Enable network adapter
attached to NAT
- Advanced
adapter type PCnet FAST III (Am79C973)
Cable connected = ticked
My WinXP guest can access the network devices and internet using this setting.

a) Did you read the links that I gave you in my last post? You do realize that this might not work, right?
b) Internet Explorer is the last tool that anyone would use to troubleshoot a network connection. Open up a Command Prompt in Windows XP, and post the output of the commands:
- ipconfig /all
- ping 8.8.8.8
- ping google.com
c) Do the same in your Mac host with the following command in your Terminal application:
- ifconfig

whether your Mac is connected by wifi or through the ethernet, your VirtualBox Network guest setting should be either NAT or Bridged. You shouldn't have to change any network settings in XP at all. if you did, you will have to undo them.
