My client, aka my mother, is running Mac Lion Server version 10.7.5. I installed VirtualBox 4.3.12 which is running Windows 7 Home Edition, so that she could use Quicken.

Currently, her computer is at my house. I was able to setup a VPN connection to her computer (Mac Lion Server) from my PC (Windows 7 Pro). Because I enabled file sharing on Mac, I can see the users, their files, and the VirtualBox icon. I tried to open it but got an error: Failed to initialize COM or failed to find VirtualBox COM server. Most likely, the VirtualBox server is not running or failed to start. I then tried to open VirtualBox from Mac and got the same error. I ended up reinstalling VirtualBox. If I am connect to the Mac computer, shouldn't I be able to run VirtualBox?

How are you trying to start Virtualbox exactly?

Once my PC (Win7) connects to her (Mac Lion Server) through a VPN connection, I go to network and click the an icon that says "server". I input my credentials. I can then see folders from users that are on the Mac computer. I look for the VirtualBox folder which is in the users/shellwoo/VirtualBox/vitrualBox and I double click it. Then I get the error mentioned above.

I believe you need Screen Sharing to start an application, not File Sharing.

I tried Screen Sharing. Now my computer (Win7) shows I am connected, but I don't see any files. How do I find them? Maybe I am having problems because I am trying to VPN into a Mac server using Windows. I will VPN into her computer using a Mac laptop just to make sure I am doing everything correctly.

However, I still need to access an app she is running on VirtualBox from a Windows machine. Is there a way to VPN into a VirtualBox. If so, how would i do it if Mac is the server and Windows is the client. The VirtualBox is running Windows on the Mac server.
