Sorry for asking but I need to be sure here: You downloaded VirtualBox 4.3.12 for Windows from our web page (VirtualBox-4.3.12-93733-Win.exe) and tried to install it on a Windows 8.1 box. But installation of VirtualBox fails with the error message that this version of VirtualBox supports only 32-bit but the 64-bit version (for your host) is required, is that correct?
There must be completely wrong because all our Windows packages support both 32-bit Windows hosts as well as 64-bit Windows hosts. Can you clarify?
64 bit OS, but I couldn't find 64 bit in virtualbox

There are three groups of people. Those that can count and those that can't.

You think that this is support?
Its free software and user based support. If you want real support you have to buy a support contract and it is not cheap.

Re: 64 bit OS, but I couldn't find 64 bit in virtualbox
all this time I thought this was help desk :O
I did a hard un-install of the VB 4.3.6 shown in the control panel, and reloaded 4.3.6 and it worked
Now my Hadoop test sandbox is up and running
seems there might have been a vestige of the prior attempted VB 4.3.6 in the registry,
and it might have been corrupted or populated by gremlins :O
Hadoop is now running all is well
