No matter what I have tried, deleting previous attempts, restarting my mac, redownloading. Can't think of anything else to do. Specs are 21.5 Inch Late 2009 iMac, 3.06Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4GB 1067 Mhz DDR3. Any help would be appreciated

are you using the VirtualBox_Uninstall.tool when you have uninstalled VB?

I really don't know what to tell you. are you an administrator on the Mac? I know it doesn't help you but I've installed VirtualBox in different Macs from a 2007 iMac to a 2014 MacBook Air and various versions of OSX and I've never had a problem.

are you running any anti-virus/malware programs that might prevent an app from installing?

btw, I found some posts here from previous versions of VirtualBox that had similar symptoms and it seems just restarting their Macs fixed it for them.

Are you trying to install VirtualBox in a OSX guest running in VMWare/Parallels/VirtualBox? I seriously doubt that would ever work.

Sometimes, the Console logs will have an error message that will give a clue as to what's happening. Have you checked them?

I get this same thing. I've tried restarting with no success. There appears to be an error in the installation. I originally was updating a prior (working) install of VirtualBox 4.3.2. When the VB 4.3.12 install failed, I ran the VB uninstall tool since my prior (working) VB install was no completely wiped out.

Since then, I've tried restarting the Mac with no difference. Also an attempt to install VB 4.3.10 also ends in this same error.

Finally got this to work by finding that the "upgrade" of VirtualBox seems to leave files on disk from a prior installation, of which the VB uninstall tool does not remove. Once I removed all the left over files, the installation of VB 4.3.12 worked. I did this by going into the Applications folder and moving the existing VirtualBox.app to the trash. This was left over from my prior working install that I was upgrading. Btw, this VirtualBox.app had a circle with a diagonal line through it.

This would lead me to think the installer for VirtualBox has a bug...or two...when it comes to installing a newer version when you already have an existing version installed.
