Win8.1 Host + Win8.1 Guest + 3D Extensions = Broken

I had many VM running different OS on a WIn7 machine (with VirtualBox v4.3.8), ranging from XP to Home Server to Thin Client to 8.1. I know that 3D is labeled experimental but since I never had problems with it turned on, it was just automatic for me when creating a VM to enable the option. Although I never actually ran 3D programs to know if secondary problems.

Recently I moved all of my VM to a newly installed Win8.1 Update 1 machine using VirtualBox v4.3.12. I was able to get everything to run except the Win8.1 guest which would hang at a black screen with flickering cursor, just after the Win8 startup logo.

So did a fresh Win8.1 Update 1 guest (with 3D turned on in settings). It installed fine and ran. However installing the Guest Extensions caused the machine to hang with a black screen and flickering cursors again.

Turning off 3D in settings, allowed both of the machines to run, the old VM copied from Win7 Host and the new Win8.1 Host created machine.

So obviously a bug. But only if both Host and Guest are Win8.1 does it appear.

Not quite true... See #12193: 4.3.0, Win8 guest, 3D + GAs causes blank screen in guest. I believe It has to do with the particular graphics card used on the host.

That is possible. I only assumed it was the move to Win host OS. But the move was also to a new machine, so it could actually be the host hardware. In my case the display card is an AT I 4770. If I can devise a test to isolate, or when I have other Win8 hosts to try out, I can let you know.
