Hi,

I have accumulated around 450Gb of VB vm's and need to move them over to a folder on my NAS (FreeNAS on an HP micro server). All my vm's were in the directory "C:\Users\Boo\VirtualBox VMs" and I copied the entire directory with all its contents over to the NAS and set the new Default Machine Folder in <File/Preferences/General> but when I try to start any of my virtual machines I get an error like :
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine XP_ms_dev.

No error info.

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: ProgressProxy
Interface: IProgress {c20238e4-3221-4d3f-8891-81ce92d9f913}
Can anyone tell what I need to do to move over all my virtual machines to my NAS drive ?

Thanks,

Boo

Howto: Move a VM.

The "Default Machine Folder" controls where new VMs will be created, not where existing VMs are located. The paths to existing VMs are recorded in VirtualBox.xml when each VM is created or registered. If you've already copied all the VMs then perhaps your fastest solution is probably to manually edit VirtualBox.xml.
