BSOD when connecting USB drive with guest OS open

Post by Britt »

Hey!

I recently started using VirtualBox and I'm encountering a rather off-putting issue. I've searched the forum and found similar topics of people having issues with this, but nothing has worked to my avail. First off, my host PC is running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit, and my guest OS is Windows 7 Ult. 64-bit (I can give further specs if required). When the guest OS is booted up at the desktop, I'll connect a USB drive (I've tried 2 different ones) to my computer and instantly get a BSOD. The error points to the driver for my USB hub, but what's curious is that nothing is triggered when my VB OS isn't open. I can plug in various USB devices and everything works just fine on my host PC. It's when the gust OS is running I'll get a BSOD when connecting a USB stick. What should be noted is that the port is USB 3.0, so could that possibly be a problem? I'm not sure if there is a setting somewhere that might help with this issue, so that's why I'm coming to the forums for help. Any input would be beneficial! :)

If you need me to attach a minidump for examination, I can do that.

Hello Britt,

Is your guest OS a fresh intall, or does it come from a migration project? In the second case i would suggest booting the VM from a live CD like HirensBootCD and making a PnP repair.

Lest us know if it helps.

Please answer and/or comment on the following:
  • You have not enabled any USB filters for the guest VM.
  • Your host BSODs when a (or just your Win7Ultimate?) VM is running and you insert a USB stick.
  • Your host does not BSOD when any other USB device is inserted.
  • What is the BSOD that you get in your host?
  • Have you tried installing VirtualBox without the Extension Pack?
  • Have you tried installing VirtualBox without the USB support?
Could you also post a guest log according to the Minimum information needed for assistance?
