I was installing Virtual Box to be able to run Windows XP. I selected VDI as the hard drive file type, dynamically allocated, 53gb. When the installation asked to Select a Startup Disk, the only option in the drop down was Host Drive D. So I clicked start and then got the following error (Fatal: No bootable medium found, System Halted.)
The hard drive name I gave in storage setup was vbXP.vdi, but it wasn't shown in the drop down for the Startup Disk as said above.
I read through some of the posts, but didn't yet find a match so would much appreciate a way to resolve this.
Thanks greatly,
lyle

Re: Only Host Drive D available for selection
The prompt in question was for the host CD drive containing the XP Setup CD. You can't install XP (onto the virtual hd) without that.

Hi,
Thank you. I understand that, but isn't the XP image part of the Virtual Box suite? I remember installing Virtual Box on another laptop and I'm pretty sure I didn't have an XP disc anywhere in the house then. When I look at that PC and it's configuration in VB, is shows storage as vdi and also the vbguestadditionsISO. Not sure what I need to do at this point.

No OS is included with VirtualBox. You need to have an install disk or .iso to install any OS whether it's Windows or Linux or OSX. If you have a VirtualBox guest on one machine you can move it to another machine. How To Move A Guestelbert wrote:Hi,

I think Microsoft would frown on Oracle giving Microsoft's copyrighted OS's away for free.elbert wrote:isn't the XP image part of the Virtual Box suite?
