Hi all,
I'm sorry if this has been covered before but im in need of some help.
I have a VM with windows 7 on it that I have just set up. I would like to put on that Vbox with Python in it. I can do this.
I have a laptop with vbox on it and would like that to connect to the win7 vm. This is where I am stuck.
Is this possible?
thanks
Martin

How do you want to connect exactly? what do you expect to do from a network point of view?

Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
My aim is to have students log on in the ICT suite and load virtualbox. This will connect to another pc which is running python.
So all the students running virtualbox will be seeing 1 pc. They will then run Python using virtualbox.
Is this possible?
Thanks
Martin

Yes of course it is possible.
If you need the VM to access anything else than the host, you need to use Bridged mode in the VM config. This will make it appear like a regular machine on the network, and you can configure it like any other machine. Be aware that bridging on Wireless is not guarantee to work.
If you need the VM to be contained and only talk to the host, then you can use Host-Only mode, which will create a virtual NIC on the host that will always be up.

Hi,
thanks for that.
I'm a bit new to this so not quite following, sorry.
The VM is on a hyper V system and is connected to a domain so I guess bridged mode.
The plan is to have about 19 pc's all running virtualbox and they all then see the VM. Then using virtualbox they can run the programs that I install on the VM.
is this possible?
thanks

Seems like you missunderstood what Virtualbox is.
Virtualbox is a competitor of Hyper-V, it does exactly the same. You cannot have Virtualbox & Hyper-V running at the same time on the same host.
You also can't run a Virtualbox VM inside an Hyper-V VM, or vice-versa.
You also can't share a single VM across multipe computers - each computer would have its own VM.

oooooops my bad.
I'll scrap that idea then and think of another way of doing it. Must be a way.
Thanks for your help with this
