problem mapping network drive on Windows 7 guest

Hi,
My config is as follow: Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS as host, Virtualbox 4.3.12 + guest additions installed on VM.
I have got a Windows XP 64 Pro on which I can map network drive without any issues (e.g. I can map \\10.1.1.1\share\ to S: for example).
I can mount that share on the Ubuntu host no problem.
I cannot map that share in my second VM Windows 7 64 Pro... I use the same login and password than everywhere else...
I don't understand, there is obviously something that Windows 7 is not handling the same way as XP which block the mapping. I have checked Windows Firewall, there is no special rules set-up on my Windows 7 VM that I can see.
The network interface is setup the same in both VM as Intel PRO/1000MT Desktop (NAT).
If some one has an idea...

You mention the GAs, but then describe a network share. Is there some reason you are avoiding GA shared folders?

Yes I want to avoid the GA and shared folders because in Ubuntu I have read access rights only unless I open nautilus as sudo. Hence if I use shared folders in the VM then I also have read access only. Whereas if I map the share in Windows XP 64 I have read/write access. That's why I'd like to do the same in Windows 7.

If I may, why you ask this question on a Virtualbox forum where the problem is, with your description, a Windows problem? You would have more luck in a Windows forum for this kind of issue.

Hi,
I know this is a Windows problem, but it happens only if with a VM if I use a native Windows 7 PC, I can map the drive OK, so the issue is happening because Windows 7 is on a VM!

If you want to do a network share you need to use Bridged instead of VBox NAT.

OK I tried Bridge network and left all default options as they were... still same problem. Any specific option to change in the VM settings under Bridge Network?
NB: with network on Bridge only I cannot even ping the server of the share. I can if NAT or NAT and Bridge are enabled (NAT on Adapter 1 and Bridge on Adapter 2).

Hi everyone,
I found the problem. Using Bridge Network did not solve the issue... so I looked elsewhere. The issue was than my VM was not registered on the domain and was in a workgroup called WORKGROUP... I had to register the VM on the domain, and then I had obvioulsy to log using my network credentials. I did not think of this because my host is running Ubuntu and is not registered to the domain, and I can mount all the shares from the network, no problem and also because my XP VM worked fine without being on the domain... Anyway, problem solved, I hope this helps other users (i.e. with Windows 7 guest you need to have the VM on the domain!! not with XP).
