Severe mouse lag

I'm trying to run some game (Fallout 2, baldur's gate 2, Arcanum) in a Windows XP guest (host is mac os). I experince severe mouse lag right in the main menu (I can't really get past it). Also, the mouse seems to be overly sensitive.
I think I've tried about every possible combination of 3d acceleration settings, it still won't help. Is there anything I could do to debug the issue?
This is the latest virtualbox, 4.3.10.

Right... Host is 64 bit, naturally (10.8.5). Guest is 32 bit, guest additions are installed. 8Gb memory on host, 1 Gb on guest. Log attached.

It looks like you have a Retina display. Window's XP games were certainly not designed to run on it. You would have to drop down to a lower resolution at the very least. Even then they may not work well. Most games don't on a virtual OS. You could try a trial version of Crossover. Many older Windows game will run on it. You still may need to change your resolution.

The display may be retina, but windows resolution isn't.

Trust me. Your display doesn't change resolutions just where the Windows Guest is showing.

As I mentioned, most games do not run well on virtual machines. Even if you didn't have a Retina display that would be the case. Since you do have a Retina display it only makes things worse. VirtualBox uses it's own video driver and it's doesn't support Retina displays directly. That's why if you switch a guest to full screen it doesn't open to full screen. So there's not much helpful advice to give.

I ran across this thread while looking for a solution, and I can confirm that the retina display does actually make a difference even if the Windows resolution is still the same. I was trying to emulate Windows (and I tried both 7 and XP) to play Roller Coaster Tycoon 2 (such a great game) and was running into this mouse lag issue. I used Retina Display Menu (because this my first post I can't post URLs so just google it), and it worked perfectly. I just set my resolution to 1280x800 instead of 1280x800(HiDPI), and the mouse lag disappeared instantly. Hope this helps!

That's because when you are in HiDPI mode you are moving 4 times as many pixels.

For the record, I got all games mentioned previously running fine in the end, without any (paid) additional software. It's all related to 3d acceleration settings.

Apple uses pixel doubling. Look it up.

In practice, thus far Apple has converted a device's display to Retina by doubling the number of pixels in each direction, quadrupling the total resolution

calloc: quadrupling means 4 times.

Double, triple, quadruple, whatever. Lag is measured in seconds, not in pixels.
