USB drive not recognised but DVD drive is no problem

I just went to the Devices tab on my Ubuntu VirtualBox and I can see the USB storage device there, nothing I did will let the Win 7 virtual machine let it know its there ? Do i need to install something or adjust my Virtual machine?

Install the extension pack ( on the host ) and add your user name to the vboxusers group.

is that part of the Guest Additions I have yet to download ?
