[Solved] Windows 8 Setup 0x000000C4 VINF_EM_TRIPLE_FAULT

1:56 PM 5/15/2014 Guessing im a tard DEP was disabled in Bios. I looked over it about 4 times before I saw it . "<@klaus-vb> according to MS DEP was always a prereq for win8"

* I can run 64bit Ubuntu just fine

* does nothing: VBoxManage.exe setextradata windows8 VBoxInternal/CPUM/HostCPUID/0x80000001/edx 0xe993fb7f
* I tried setting the versoin to windows 8,8.1 and ubuntu all the same issue.
* tried setting video mem to 256M and 2M and disabling everyththing else ( network cards etc )
* tried setting enable 3D on off nothing..

Why does the log (and the vminfo you posted) say that the selected guest is "Ubuntu_64"? If you want to install a Win8.1 64bit guest then select the correct template.

Also, your CPU only has two cores, so it would be wise not to allocate both to the VM: the host can't run on fumes.

Finally, I advise not thrashing randomly. Select a VM template and then do not change any VM setting unless you know in advance what the effect will be. I say this because almost none of the changes you tried make sense to me.

Worked out the cause with the poster yesterday on IRC. The problem in this case was that the BIOS had NX disabled (see warning in the log)...
