[solved] 2k3 server & 64bit guests

Hi,

VB (4.3.10) doesn't offer 64bit guests.... I've looked around the forums, mostly it seems the OPs don't have vt-x or it isn't switched on in BIOS, that's not the case for me...

Dual Xeon 5050 (64bit w/ vt-x implemented)
Intel Virtualisation on in BIOS (set in BIOS by me and confirmed with Intel Processor Utility)

I noted in one or two posts that 4.2.x seemed to work, so I tried an old install binary, that gave me 64bit options but on trying to launch the VM i got an error message

I can't think of anything that would be locking the vt-x as there are no other VMs on the unit and its not disabled

Can anyone advise?

VT-x is locked at power-on.

I had never given the machine enough time to to enable the change to VT-x in BIOS - rebooting is not sufficient, you must power down completely (i did so, with power lead detateched for 30 secs)
