How to maintain Hyper-V guest virtual drives

Hello,

We've got a VM deployed in a Windows Server 2012 R2, Hyper-V session. I need to do some maintenance on the VM guest drive, and my best chances for success I believe are with VirtualBox, especially for its USB support.

To do this, I believe the following are necessary, more or less:
  • Detach VHD from Hyper-V during the operation.
  • Convert the Hyper-V VHDX to VHD format (Convert-VHD).
  • Copy VHD to local drive to VirtualBox and setup a VM with IDE VHD controller.
  • Do necessary maintenance work.
  • May "redeploy" the VM to Hyper-V using the VHD instead of the original VHDX.
This is about right?

Thank you...

Best regards.

I don't know what OS you are planning to install in VirtualBox so you can attach the VHD drive to do whatever maintenance you need to do on the VHD file but, You can't run VirtualBox with Hyper-V enabled. You would have to turn it off temporarily. Also, I would make sure I had a backup of the VHDX file before you try and convert it.
