Copying files from host

Post by Lind_123 »

Hello,

This seems like such a simple question that should have a simple answer, but I cannot find a way to copy files from my host machine onto my virtual machine running Windows 3.1. I was able to install Dos and Windows, as I was able to use virtual floppy disks, but now I want to copy files that are too large to fit on a virtual floppy. If I try and click on "intall guest additions" in the "Devices" menu, nothing happens? Please can anyone help?

One simple way is to put the host files on a virtual CD (ie an ISO file). Then, provided you have CD-ROMs installed on the guest, you can simply load the ISO as a CD and take the files from it.

Going the other way is a little more fiddly, though.

To add to what dlharper said, Guest Additions do not work for Windows 3.1. You could either go for the CD solution so you can transfer files from your host to your VM guest, or see if there is an FTP server that you could setup either in your host or your guest. Remember although that Windows 3.1 was not so much network-aware, so it maybe a little problematic.
