USB harddrives not recognized by host

Dear All,
I know the USB problem is often discussed, but this problem seems to be different than the others and can't find a solution with google/search on this forum. Perhaps you can help me:
On my host (OS X mavericks) I have a guest Windows 7 running. I have a external HDD disk I would like to run in windows, although it is recognized by my host in windows I get an "error": USB device not recognized.
Some info of the external disk: it has 3 partitions, 3 in exfat and 1 is used by the mac for the Time Machine (is not visible for windows pc's). In my opinion exfat is not the problem, yesterday i've formatted one partition into NTFS and still I got the same error.
I've tried to see if the HDD was the problem but when using another external drive (one partition, exfat) I get the same problem.
Some settings of VB: storage, just the guest additions installed as my D: drive with live CD/DVD checked. I've added a USB filter for this device and USB 2.0 controller checked (although it's USB 3.0).
I really have no idea if there are some other options left, it would be great if I can get some tips/advice from you!
If you want to know some other details, lett me know.
Kind regards..
