In VB 4.3.10, I installed Lubuntu 14.04 64-bit and am about to mount and install the GA. Following the
tutorial, I had already prepared with:
Code: Select all
apt-get install dkms build-essential linux-headers-generic
Even though I haven't gotten to the GUI yet and I didn't make sure that no other CD is already loaded for the VM, I went to
Device Menu and clicked on Install Guest Additions. VB manager reads that I have VBoxGuest Additions.iso:

What's the question?
That the "VBoxGuest Additions.iso" shows up in the VirtualBox Manager? That would be expected since you went to the "Device Menu" and clicked on "Install Guest Additions". That's exactly what it does; it mounts the "VBoxGuest Additions.iso" to your VM.

Sorrythat I forgot the question. I don't know what to do from here. I need to install the GA, since it's mounted, and get to Lubuntu's GUI frm the command line.

Now that I started up my Lubuntu VM again, the GUI loaded. In the VM Manager I checked Settings > Storage and VBoxGuest Additions.iso wasn't under Controller IDE anymore so I went to VM's Device Menu and clicked Install Guest Additions. This window popped up:

At the VBOXADDITIONS screen, if I open and execute VBoxLinuxAdditions.run then a screen reads
Code: Select all
Verifying archive integrity... All good.
Uncompressing VirtualBox 4,3,10 Guest Additions for Linux.........
This program must be run with administrator privileges. Aborting
How do I get administrator privileges here?

It isn't at the command line. If I open and execute at the command line, I get:
Code: Select all
luis@luis-VirtualBox:/media/luis/VBOXADDITIONS_4.3.10_93012$
Typing sudo only renders a bunch of usages. It may be easier to open a terminal to install the GA that way.
