Can't access SuSE 13.1 host printer from Windows XP guest

VirtualBox v. 4.3.10 r93012 w/guest additions
Host system: openSuSE Linux 13.1
Guest system: Windows XP SP3
Printer: HP LaserJet 4050 - parallel port on a SIIG pci card
Driver: HP LaserJet 4050 Series Postscript (recommended)
I configured the parallel port as discussed in the how-to on this forum (topic 54187) and unloaded lp, but cannot install the printer on the Windows XP guest automatically or manually, selecting lpt1 or via an address including port 631.
The text of the VirtualBox configuration and the guest log file are provided in the next post below.
