So, I've spent quite a while getting a VM installed only to find that I should have made it considerably larger. "No problem", I thought, I'll just add a new, larger vdi to the VM and use CarbonCopyCloner to clone the working system to a larger disk. CCC finished the clone OK but I can't convince VirtualBox to boot from it!

Is there some secret incantation I'm missing?

Host is 0SX 10.6.8, VM is 10.6.8.

Hmm, in the bug description, it says that efi gets fed: “-keepsyms=1 -v -serial=01”. Is it the serial parameter that forces it to boot from the first partition?

I saw that but it seemed to be Windows/Linux related? AFAIK, gparted does not run on OS X.

No, it is not.
OS X boots from first partition by default. You need to have io OS X present you with the available boot partitions, normally on real hardware by pressing Alt during booting.

While you have the guest OSX running, System Preferences ---> StartUp Disk and select the other partition/drive

Works on my dual-boot OS X virtual machines. Both partitions/drives need to be bootable.

BTW, how can you tell which clone is active/booted?

In the Finder, the boot volume is not ejectable.

What about removing the small HD (VDI) and adding the large one from the VBox recipe? Like you would do in real life?

Crap, I should have tried that! Eventually, I just blew away the VM and installed a new one from scratch.
