Hello,
I have been having an issue with a Debian Wheezy guest vbox where audio playback would fail after a while. The host is Windows 7. One thing I wanted to test was whether the audio controller had anything to do with it. The config for the guest used the AC'97 controller, and I switched to the Intel HD Audio controller. After switching, I can't hear anything when I play audio. Switching back to AC'97 restores the audio again. The guest OS can see whichever controller is configured on the PCI bus, and can play to either.
I have tried VirtualBox 4.2.24 and 4.3.10, and have had similar results with both. Very early in the logs, I see messages about the HDA Codec "can't open in fmt(freq: 44100)" and "can't open out fmt(freq: 44100)".
Is there a general problem with using the Intel HD Audio controller and some hosts/guests, and is there something I can try to get it to work?
Thanks in advance!
Audio controller
