Host system with multiple monitor resolutions

I have a computer setup with three monitors. The primary monitor resolution is 3200 x 1800 and the other two are 1920 x 1080. If I run VirtualBox with a display on one of the secondary monitors, it thinks that the resolution is the same as that of the primary monitor. Consequently everything is rendered poorly and extremely tiny. It is nearly impossible to read. Changing the resolution of the virtual machine does not help as the issue is the resolution of the "real" monitor.
There is an interesting effect if I have the box partially on the primary monitor and partially on the secondary monitor. In this case the pixels are the proper size. I suspect that this has something to do with the way that Windows renders output under these circumstances.
Is there some setting that I should be making to the software or is it what it seems to be - an actual bug?
Thanks for any help.
