adjustment of guest resolution

Post by Tim&Sun »

Dear community,

I struggle in adjusting guest resolution in ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

My virtual box is 4.3.10 and my vm´s are ubuntu 12.04 LTS (32 bit) and 14.04 LTS (32 bit). Host OS is windows 7 64 bit
I installed ubuntu 14.04. LTS a couple of days ago.

Within 12.04 I have no problems to resize the virtual box window. Every change of the window size will direcly followed by the ubuntu application. However within 14.04 the option of automatically resizing the gust screen is disabled. I tried several times to install VBoxGuestAdditions_4.3.10 which from my point of view seems to work (Since I´m a beginner I´m still not really sure).

Due to the fact that within the same virtual box 12.04 configuration is working properly I asume that this is an issue of virtual box.

I there anything I can do / check of reconfigure to make the 14.04 running properly within virtual box 4.3.10?

Thank you very much.

did you install the guest additions from the Device menu or from the Ubuntu repositories?

I did it from the device menu so from the oracle vm virtual box manager. is this a wrong approach? If so how should I do this correctly within ubuntu?

Installing from the device menu is correct. I'm not sure why you are having an issue with resizing. Lately there seems to be a number of people, for a variety of reasons that had some problem. I have been running Ubuntu, Lubuntu and Xubuntu 14.04 since they were in alpha and have had no issue with screen resizing.

you should attach the compressed VBox.log file to your post. that way others can see if there is an obvious problem.
