Installing Virtualbox on my windows 8 computer

so i recently got a new computer and i needed to install virtaulbox on it for a project of mine, during installation it says that you will need to temporarily disable internet access, and i was fine with that as long as it is temporary. But even after installation, I still don't have internet access. I looked at my connected networks and it says that i am connected, but when I try to go on a web browser nothing works. does anyone know how to fix this? my laptop is a lenovo z510 with windows 8 if it matters.
