Errors in VBoxSVC logs

I just looked at the VBoxSVC logs after using VirtualBox for 5 years.
I noticed there are multiple entries for multiple guests such as this...

Code: Select all

ERROR [COM]: aRC=VBOX_E_OBJECT_IN_USE (0x80bb000c) aIID={05f2bbb6-a3a6-4fb9-9b49-6d0dda7142ac} aComponent={Medium} aText={Medium '/Applications/VMs/openSUSE 132/openSUSE 1032.vdi' cannot be closed because it is still attached to 1 virtual machines}, preserve=false
Is this a real error? I have no problem running VirtualBox or any guests, or even more than one guest. I do have VMs in different locations, i.e. some on an external drive. Could this also explain why I am getting an extraneous icon in the dock when I run a guest?

any thoughts?
added a screenshot of the activity monitor. The VirtualBox process that is not responding is causing the extra icon in the dock. If I quit the process the icon goes away but then the guest won't shutdown properly. I also can't start VirtualBox while the process is open. If VirtualBox is already open and I start a guest from there, I get two, VirtualBox icons plus the VM icon, all in the dock. and one of the VirtualBox processes hangs.

I found a ticket that was started 18 months ago on a related issue but it seems it's not resolved just yet. https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/11143

edit: I forgot to mention it doesn't appear to be a Mac only issue.
