Screen Resolution in Guests Cannot Be > 1024x768?

Hi,
I noticed that the screen resolution in virtualbox guests cannot be greater than 1024x768.
May I request virtualbox developers to enable screen resolution in guests greater than 1024x768 for the next release of virtualbox?
Thank you very much.

Yes it does. Install the guest additions in the guest ( in the guest ) and then use the (Host+F) toggle to go in and out of full screen. The resolution will match your monitor.

I am having trouble installing guest additions in the RHEL 7 Beta guest. Please refer to the output below.

That's understandable as the version of Xorg is not a released version. You can try to edit the VBox source to see if you can force it but the best is to wait until they ( RedHat ) changes the version number to a released one.
Code: Select all
Warning: unsupported pre-release version of XOrg Server installed. Not installing the XOrg drivers.

Is there anyway to work around the problem? I don't know how to edit the virtualbox source code.
Please note the failure below.
Code: Select all

Did I make a very bad decision when I installed RHEL 7 Beta?

The only work around is what I said you could try, but there is no guarantee it will even work. As for a bad decision it all depends on what your plans are. If you need the guest to have a full desktop and 3D acceleration you probably need to go with an OS that is not beta.

Is it possible for you to get a virtualbox developer to modify the source code for me so that the guest additions work with RHEL 7 Beta? I don't know how to edit Virtualbox source code.

They don't work on pre-released code. Too much work, because it is always in flux until the move it to release code.

I am willing to pay a token sum.

What I mean is that I am willing to pay a certain sum of money to get VirtualBox Guest Additions to work on my RHEL 7 Beta.

I can help, but I don't need money. VirtualBox is open-source, and RHEL-7 is freely available for public testing.

Hey, I could use that money!!! I need to pay a developer to backport the webcam passthrough for OSX 10.6.x!
Sorry, couldn't resist
