Ubuntu crash on installation

Hello all,

I'm beginning to learn computer science and some friends suggested that I learn to program C and the best way to do so is with a virtual Linux system running on my Windows 7 computer. I've downloaded the image for the ubuntu 14.04 i386. When running the virtual machine, the purple "loading" screen shows up after which I can press any key and it'll take me to the select languages menu. After I select any of the options shown such as "install ubuntu," a sort of cryptic code appears, attached as a screenshot. No idea what this is supposed to mean and I can't go anywhere from here. The number in a first column appears different every time I try this. Any idea what this is? This may be a simple problem, but I couldn't find anything related to this.

Thanks everyone

A couple of things:
1) You're running a newly released Ubuntu version, which I don't know if it has issues running as a guest in VBox. You could try a LTS version, like 12.04, which is working pretty nice with VBox.
2) Could you post the zipped "VBox.log" file and "<YourUbuntu>.vbox". Read the following: Minimum information needed for assistance.

It's not a problem running 14.04 LTS guests in VirtualBox. I'm running 3, Ubuntu, Lubuntu and Xubuntu. It seems however you are having a problem with the LiveCD when you press a key while it is booting. Did you ever just wait until it gets to the Try or Install screen? It doesn't seem like you actually installed it to a virtual machine but are just running off the Live CD or you never removed the Live CD from the guest if you did install it.
